I’m done with the Middle East

Seriously, I’m completely over that part of the world. Between 9-11 and the resulting idiocy of the War on Terror (read: Middle Eastern countries), not to mention the ever-present tension between all the governments out there…I’m just done. This latest dust-up between Israel and Hamas is just the last straw, for me at least. I’m tired of hearing about all of them; Israel, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Pakistan, Yemen, Oman, the UAE, every single last country out there. I know that some people might consider that ghastly, or racist, or some other negative connotation, but honestly? Can anyone reading this say with a straight face that they think any of the conflicts that are currently exploding over there are going to be resolved anytime soon?

These people have been fighting each other over the same bullshit arguments for thousands of years. Think about that – these battles may have at times been surging, and at other times waning, but they’ve essentially been going nonstop, and ever since Israel became a country again things have only gotten worse. The US, and NATO, and everyone else involved need to just pack up their shit, and tell those governments, “We’re done. We’re sick of sending soldiers and supplies and money to you people just so you can blow it all doing your absolute best to annihilate each other. When you folks come to your senses, call us and we’ll hang out. But until then, do us a favor and lose our number.”

It’s not like there’s a lack of other things worth spending time and money on. You’ve got a lust for quelling genocidal rampages? Hey, look, Africa’s completely going apeshit! Maybe we could do something about that. Feeling an urge to prevent a country’s government from completely losing control over an unruly citizenry? I hear Greece is nice this time of year. Or maybe you’re not a fan of people starving to death, and you want to do something about it. Well, North Korea, a country with a history of suffering devastating famines, is on the verge of one of the worst in decades.

And that’s just the tip of the worldwide calamity iceberg. Look, Albert Einstein once said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” Maybe in 2009, the US government tries doing the non-insane thing, and instead focuses on issues that actually have a chance of being resolved before the end of the universe.
